IMPORTANT: Supreme Court Rules CTET Mandatory for All In-Service Teachers (Sep 7, 2025)

The Supreme Court of India ruled on September 7, 2025 that the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is now mandatory for all teachers — both new and in-service — to continue teaching in CBSE-affiliated schools. All in-service teachers without CTET certification must clear it within the stipulated timeframe.

CTET Eligibility

  • Paper I (Class 1-5): 10+2 with 50% + 2-year D.El.Ed
  • Paper I: Or Graduation + B.El.Ed. (4-year)
  • Paper II (Class 6-8): Graduation + B.Ed. degree
  • Paper II: Or Graduation with 50% + 1-year B.Ed.
  • Age: Minimum 18 years; no upper age limit
  • B.Ed. from NCTE recognized institution mandatory

  • SC / ST / OBC / PwD: 55% (82/150)
  • Certificate issued on qualifying marks
  • Valid for lifetime (changed from 7 years)

  • Post-Graduate degree in relevant subject
  • B.Ed. from NCTE-recognized institution
